"Bit of ciúnas for the musician" - Micky Fearon
Updated: Sep 14, 2021
If I were to describe the sound of my university experience, it would be Mozart's Requiem during choir rehearsals, stomach churning bass in nightclubs and this man's voice in the Argyle Bar on a Thursday night. Lurgan's Micky Fearon is an artist who takes a song, uniquely packages it and presents it anew, stamped with his own arrangement and style. With a combination of tasteful guitar accompaniment and Co. Armagh vocals, his artistry knows no bounds.

Name: Micky Fearon
Age: 24
Instrument: Guitar/vocals. Over the years I’ve learnt a bit of banjo and bass as well.
Dream gig to attend: I would love to perform in the likes of the waterfront or vicar street, I’d imagine it would feel amazing to look out at a full crowd in one of these venues and realise they’re here for your music!
What would you consider to be your greatest musical achievement?
Personally my greatest musical achievement is the demo recordings for my groups upcoming EP, it’s something small but means a lot to me as I arranged all of the music and even wrote some of it and it’s great to see and hear it all come together! I'm also very proud of myself for obtaining a distinction in my creative musicianship masters degree, it’s a great feeling knowing that all the hard work payed off in the end.
You're having dinner with three of your musical heroes (dead or alive), who are they? Most importantly, where do you take them?
Arty McGlynn, Jimi Hendrix, James Taylor. I think it would be funny to hear what the conservation would entail as these musicians have no connection at all. Honestly, I would take them to Henry’s in Belfast as it has an interesting history but most importantly does an unbelievable steak dinner and a powerful pint of stout.
How would you describe your music in one word?
Folksy.
What are you listening to right now?
Always listening to so much but here’s a few artists.. The Bothy Band, Planxty, The Yanks, Dan Gurney, Taproom Trio, anything featuring Arty McGlynn, Donal & Michael McCague, Shane Mulchrone, Paul Simon, Willie Nelson, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and James Taylor.
With an upcoming EP in the works, make sure to follow Micky on social media. You don't want to miss out on this one!
